Dr. Dave Harrison
I have been playing the trumpet since I was 13 years old. I played all through high school in the concert band and stage band. During pre-med, medical school, and residency I played in a variety of community bands and orchestras. I am now principle trumpet in the Richmond Orchestra, a 40 piece community orchestra and chorus in Richmond , British Columbia. I also play regularly on the worship team of Kitsilano Community Church , where I attend with my family.
Following graduation from medical school in 1983 I completed a 3 year residency in Family Medicine/Emergency Medicine. After one year of working in a medium sized emergency department I embarked on a second residency in order to obtain my specialty certification in Emergency Medicine. I have been on staff as an Emergency Physician at Vancouver General Hospital since 1990. I have been Medical Director of the VGH Hyperbaric Unit since 2003. Most of my practice now involves Diving/Hyperbaric Medicine and research, and teaching, with a few shifts per month in the Emergency Department.
I started playing trumpet in 1992 at the age of 15. My playing experience is with High School Bands, Community Concert Bands and Jazz Big Bands (5 years in Queen City Big Band). 1999 I was fortunate to be invited to participate in the New Zealand Youth Jazz Band.
After a rather extended break from (around 2004 to 2008) I returned to playing Jazz in a small club in Okinawa, Japan - and then onto the Okinawa Jazz Association Big Band and performed concerts with them professionally until I left Okinawa to come to Canada in Jan 2010.
Currently I play with a local jazz combo in North Vancouver, B.C.
I have has the good fortune to work in the Travel Retail Industry since graduating with Diplomas in Business & Management in 1999.
During this time I worked for DFS Group L.P. in a variety of roles in Store Management, Merchandise Buying and Visual Merchandising across New Zealand, Australia, Japan and Hong Kong. My specialties are store operations, strategic planning, buying and negotiating & visual merchandising.
These days you will find me working as the Retail Manager for Vancouver's Designer Outlet.
We both look forward to assisting you with your questions and quest to find the perfect instrument!
